Immunodeficiency Disorders

The immune system protects us from infections with bacteria, viruses and other organisms. This protection is provided by special white blood cells called T or B lymphocytes, neutrophils and other parts of immune system. When these cells do not function normally or your body does not produce enough antibodies, this can lead to development of immunodeficiency disorders.

Children and adults with these disorders are at risk of recurrent infections including life threating infections. The symptoms suggestive of these conditions often appear in childhood, but can occur for the first time in adult life for many patients. These conditions can lead to reduced quality of life and life expectancy due to recurrent infections, repeated courses of antibiotics, time off school/work and away from family. These conditions can be associated with other autoimmune and inflammatory conditions and are a significant health as well as financial burden for people suffering from these conditions.

Our specialists can provide initial assessment and organise testing and advise further treatments for these conditions.
